Five Simple Ways of Improving Ergonomics in the Workplace

Imagine team members complaining about chronic back pains and choosing to work from the comfort of their homes. Bad ergonomics can lead to such experiences. Ergonomics is about designing work to be as comfortable as possible. Office seating is often associated with this ergonomics but extends far beyond that. It can have a significant impact on your workplace. If done correctly, it can boost performance, and if done incorrectly, it can cause injury. Thus, considering that more and more people are shifting from working remotely, improving ergonomics in the workplace is crucial.

Good ergonomics has several benefits. Engagement is one of them. Employees can focus and engage for long periods when they experience physical comfort in their workspaces. Another benefit is a culture of safety. Finally, an excellent ergonomic solution promotes your business reputation by showing employees that you care for their comfort. Read below to know the five simple ways of improving ergonomics in your workplace.

1. Invest in standing desks

Even if you are working in a business environment, spending 7 to 8 hours sitting down isn’t healthy. Organisations should invest in standing desks. This way, employees can move between sitting and standing throughout the day, thereby reducing strain and awkward postures. Additionally, standing at work can lower blood sugar levels, especially after lunch.

2. Curved Monitors

As curved monitors allow one to view everything simultaneously, they are easier on the eyes than flat-screen monitors. As a result, less eye fatigue will occur, increasing the field view.

3. Install chairs with solid back support

An ergonomically designed desk chair should be a top priority. An ideal chair should have a wider seat on each side, lumbar support, armrests and backrests that can be adjusted, and extra padding on the seat and backrest.

4. Encourage movement breaks

It’s important to encourage team members to move regularly throughout the day to relieve their bodies of sitting. By doing so, they will be able to refresh their bodies and brains and be more productive.

5. Environmental Setting

Designing workspaces should take into account environmental factors. These include workspace lighting, background noises such as roadworks and noisy phone calls, and workplace temperature. In addition, a team-friendly office environment is necessary to ensure that it is conducive and organic for the team to work.
